When you brake, the first thing to be involved is the pedal. The whole process starts with the pressure you apply with your foot. Depending on your actions, you can lower the moving speed, keep it steady when you are descending, or stop completely.

The heart of the drum brake consists of a rotating cylinder, the drum, and of one or more strips made from friction material called shoes.

The brake holder plate has one or two hydraulic cylinders equipped with pistons. When braking, the brake pump pushes the hydraulic fluid towards the cylinders, moving the pistons that push the shoes against the drum surface, thus causing deceleration and wheel stoppage.

The flexible hoses that connect the brake pump with the calipers or drums send the hydraulic pressure to pads or shoes, letting you slow down or stop your car. A loss of effectiveness and brake fluid can happen when these hoses are worn, and it is because of the stress they are subject to, we would like to remind you to have them inspected regularly, at least every 2 years. A brake hose that is too old can require a dangerously higher braking distance to that needed to avoid collisions.

The brake fluid in fact has to resist boiling so steam bubbles don’t form in the system.
